Episode 100 - Scott Evans on Cinematic Portraits, Fashion Photography & Creative Storytelling
Episode 100 of The PHYS Podcast is more than a milestone.
It's a celebration.
What began as a simple belief, that Photography Heals Your Soul has grown into one hundred conversations with photographers, filmmakers, artists, adventurers, entrepreneurs, and storytellers from around the world.
One hundred conversations about creativity.
One hundred conversations about resilience.
One hundred reminders that behind every photograph is a human story worth telling.
To mark this milestone, Tyson Martin sits down with photographer, filmmaker, and art director Scott Evans for a conversation that perfectly reflects the spirit of the show.
Based in California's Bay Area and originally from Santa Cruz, Scott's work exists at the intersection of photography and cinema. His images blend atmosphere, storytelling, emotion, and style, creating photographs that feel less like documentation and more like scenes pulled from an unwritten film.
For Scott, photography has never been about simply recording reality.
It's about creating worlds.
Drawing inspiration from legendary photographers such as Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, and Richard Avedon, alongside a lifelong love of cinema, westerns, and visual storytelling, Scott approaches every image as an opportunity to build narrative and evoke emotion.
His photographs often leave viewers asking questions.
What happened before this moment?
What happens next?
Who are these people?
That curiosity is intentional.
It's at the heart of his creative process.
After studying photography and later earning a degree in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Scott spent several years living in Portland, Oregon, working in the restaurant industry while continuing to develop his photographic voice.
Like many creatives, his path wasn't immediate.
It was built through persistence.
Through experimentation.
Through years of showing up and continuing to create.
Today, Scott's work spans portraiture, fashion, filmmaking, and commercial storytelling, all connected by a distinctly cinematic perspective.
He is also a dedicated Leica rangefinder photographer, embracing the slower, more intentional process that the Leica M system encourages.
For Scott, the camera is at its best when it disappears.
When the technology fades into the background and the photographer becomes fully present with the subject, the light, and the story unfolding in front of them.
In this conversation, Tyson and Scott explore photography, filmmaking, creativity, and what it means to build a life around visual storytelling.

It can transport us into entirely different worlds.
His images reflect a deep appreciation for storytelling and a belief that the strongest photographs leave space for the viewer to participate in the narrative.
This conversation is an inspiring exploration of portrait photography, fashion photography, filmmaking, cinema, Leica cameras, and the creative process behind building meaningful work.
It is also a fitting reflection on what this podcast has always been about:
